Vidyamandir Trust, Palanpur managed Shri. P.K. Mehta College of Special Education is the only institution offering special education training in the whole of North Gujarat. The college is recognized by RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi), running special education courses like B.Ed.Special Education (HI- Hearing Impairment) and B.Ed. Special Education (VI – Visual Impairment) from 2010 and D.Ed. in Special Education (IDD-Intellectual and Developmental Disability) since 2012. These courses aim to overcome the shortage of special educators in special schools for hearing impaired, visually impaired and mentally challenged children across Gujarat and beyond.
Located in Mamtamandir campus, where the three special schools have been teaching differently-abled students for free since 1963, finding trained teachers has never been an easy task. Back in the day, most aspirants were either unaware of this field of education, or they chose to teach unimpaired students over the Divyang. Most did not even see the point in teaching those who seemed ostensibly dependent for life. Eradicating such widespread ignorance became even more necessary after the demand for special educators and counsellors kept growing with time. When Vidyamandir planned to pioneer the first special education college in North Gujarat in 2010, Shri Pravinchandra Khemchandbhai Mehta’s family financially supported the project to commemorate Shri Pravinchandrabhai’s lifelong dedication as a teacher, leading to the establishment of Shri P. K. Mehta College of Special Education after his name, which has heen providing abled and skilled teachers for the special need students every year.
Shri P. K. Mehta College of Science was established in 2010 by the trust to provide excellent education to the differently abled students through modern teaching-learning methods and integration of new technology to create and procure excellent teachers for the students with special needs.
